Cody Brewczynski completes wet weather masterclass in Phillip Island finale

It was a dominating performance from Cody Brewczynski to seal the final win of Round 6 for the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series at Phillip Island.

The result leaves a tantalising title battle between Brewczynski, MTA NSW’s Kody Garland and reigning series winner Joel Heinrich for Osborn’s Transport, who all completed the outright podium in Race 4.

Between Races 3 and 4, Phillip Island was soaking with rain providing a new challenge for the drivers as Heinrich led from pole ahead of Brewczynski and Harvey.

A phenomenal job by Kody Garland’s crew changed his engine between races and he was charging early to be fifth at the end of lap 4.

Riskie Racing’s Brandon Madden was another to move forward during the early stages to sit sixth, up some 12 spots.

Heinrich was battling to hold the lead and Brewczynski made the move to take it around the outside of Turn 6, but Harvey was staying with them bringing Garland along too.

A daring pass on the inside of Turn 1 placed Garland into third as Brewczynski was 2s clear of Heinrich.

Chapman still remained in fifth from Madden, Competition Coatings’ Nathan Williams, Ballarat Performance Auto Wreckers driver Jack Boyd, Riskie Racing’s Scott Andriske and Lachlan Evennett for WLM Motorsport.

At the front, Garland demoted Heinrich to second as the reigning series winner was struggling in the inclement conditions.

Brewczynski was dominating out in front some 7.2s clear of Garland leaving Heinrich a further 1.6s behind.

It was Brewczynski completing a wet weather masterclass to take a 98s victory from Garland, Heinrich, Madden, Harvey and Chapman.

Williams continued his strong form to be seventh from Boyd, Andriske and Evennett.

Action Line Marking’s Scott Dornan took out Gold Cup ahead of the Axil Coffee Roasters entry of David Makin and Joseph Andriske of Riskie Racing.

Johnston Craill Racing Enterprises scored a win on return as Asher Johnston took the Master Cup honours from Kent Quinn as Cody Mckay failed to complete the minimum amount of laps.

Harvey continued his reign at the top of the Rookie Cup from Boyd and Evennett.

The final season finale for the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series is on the Gold Coast supporting the Supercars on October 25-27.
