Cody Brewczynski fires back in chaotic inverted grid race

Western Sydney Motorsport’s Cody Brewczynski has struck back by winning the inverted grid event at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

The top six were inverted putting Brewczynski on pole providing the chance for the Western Sydney Motorsport driver to gain some ground in the title fight.

Brewczynski madę the perfect jump to lead Corish Motorsports’ Mason Harvey, though he lost ground to the TFH Hire Services entry of Josh Thomas.

This was reversed when Harvey demoted Thomas after the latter ran wide at Turn 11.

However, there was action back in the pack at the same location as Koan Solutions’ Anthony DiMauro and Courtney Prince in the Corish Motorsports entry were left stricken. Scott Dornan in the Action Line Marking entry was also involved, so too Riskie Racing’s Brandon Madden.

An already shortened affair due to circuit delays this morning was put under safety car.

With 30s left on the clock, Brewczynski led the field away as Harvey had gapped Thomas with Garland for company, but this was the order to the line.

There were multiple incidents involving Asher Johnston, Scott Taylor and Jordan Freestone during the final lap dash.

Just 0.088s separated Brewczynski from Harvey as Thomas, Garland, Guardian Interlco Services driver Reece Chapman and series leader Joel Heinrich for Osborn’s Transport was sixth.

Competition Coatings’ Nathan Williams was seventh ahead of Riskie Racing’s Scott Andriske and Craig Thompson of Western Sydney Motorsport.

Harvey won the Rookie Cup from Thomas and Diesel Thomas.

Cody McKay led the way from Masters Cup from Osborn’s Transport driver Brett Osborn and MSS Group driver Scott O'Keefe.

Thompson was at the head of Gold Cup from Matt Gooding for Property Compliance Australia and Emma Clark in the Mable entry.

The final race for the 2024 Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series is tomorrow at 10:35am AEST.
