Cody Brewczynski has secured the opening race victory for the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series at Symmons Plains.
In treacherous conditions, multiple safety car interruptions took place, but it was Western Sydney Motorsport’s Brewczynski making the most of the opportunities to take the win from MTA NSW’s Kody Garland and series leader Joel Heinrich for Osborn’s Transport.
A damp track greeted the field for Race 1 as Garland and Heinrich sprinted away heading to Symmons Plains’ iconic hairpin.
Madden maintained third ahead of a monster battle between the Guardian Interlock Services/Motorsport25’s Reece Chapman and Cody Brewczynski for Western Sydney Motorsport.
Lap 2 provided the first of the action as Madden spun exiting Turn 3 hitting the wall backwards and remained there to bring out the safety car.
Garland held the lead from Heinrich, Brewczynski, Chapman and Ryan Reynolds in the Jascott Civil/Reynovate Constructions in fifth.
Corish Motorsport’s Mason Harvey leading Rookie Cup, Scott Dornan for Action Line Marking headed Gold Cup and Cody Mckay had control in Masters Cup.
Upon the restart there was plenty of action as first Brewczynski took second from Heinrich, before proceeding to snatch the lead from Garland as this proved a crucial move.
There was an incident for Reynolds as he ran off the track at the penultimate turn dropping to the back, while Dornan also went off to drop out of the Gold Cup lead.
The safety car then returned to the track as Chad Chapman spun exiting Turn 3 as Safety Direction’s Shane Mann did likewise leading to a collision.
Race 1 concluded under safety car conditions as a result.
Brewczynski, Garland and Heinrich finished as the outright podium, with Chapman finishing ahead of Rookie Cup winner Jordan Freestone for Corish Motorsports.
Freestone’s teammates Mason Harvey and Andrew Corish followed from Nathan Williams for Competition Coatings, with Jacob Currie taking his best result of the season in ninth for Precision International.
Masters Cup was secured by Cody Mckay in 10th outright as Kent Quinn. For Norganics Australia held off Craig Thompson, who celebrated his 200th race and started from the back after missing qualifying due to a flight cancellation.
Gold Cup was thrown wide open due to Dornan’s off as Denis Butler for Team Grand Racing took the victory ahead of Property Compliance Australia’s Matt Gooding and the Riskie Racing entry of Joseph Andriske.
It was Freestone scoring the Rookie Cup win from Harvey and Currie.
Race 2 for the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series is scheduled for 12:20pm AEST.
