Kody Garland has claimed back-to-back pole positions for the first time this year, with Round 6 of the Battery World Aussie Racing Car Super Series at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit officially underway.
In what was the series’ first session for the weekend, Garland guided the MTA NSW Ford Mustang to a solid time of 1:44.940 - topping the timesheets by almost three tenths over reigning champion Joel Heinrich.
Despite Garland claiming pole position, it proved no easy feat as Heinrich was within range for much of the interrupted session, which was red flagged midway throughout after Ian Chivas stopped at turn six.
Less than two tenths slower than the Osborn’s Motorsport Ford Mustang of Heinrich was another top contender, with Western Sydney Motorsport’s Cody Brewczynski producing a consistent run across the session.
Rounding out the top five were Mason Harvey and Kent Quinn for Norganic Proteins - the two drivers also leading their respective classes. Claiming fourth place was Harvey, who topped the Rookie Class, while Quinn was fastest of the Masters drivers.
In sixth was Nathan Williams - the Competition Coatings driver edged out Action line Marking’s Scott Dornan by just sixth hundredths of a second.
Although he missed out on sixth for the session, Dornan finished the session as the Gold Cup leader.
It was even closer in the battle for eighth as just .004 separated Scott Andriske and Jordan Freestone, while Riskie Racing’s Brandon Madden rounded out the top 10.
The Battery World Aussie Racing Car Super Series has two races remaining on Saturday, with the first race at 12:40pm AEST and the second 4:40pm AEST.
