Reigning Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series winner Joel Heinrich has completed Round 3 in Perth as a winner after taking a thrilling Race 4 following contact on the final lap with MTA NSW’s Kody Garland.
Garland swept across the front of Chapman at the start as he was forced to fend off Madden, but this failed before the safety car was required to tow away the TFH Hire entry of debutant Diesel Thomas.
It was a short caution as Garland led the way with Chapman and Madden went through the first four turns side-by-side with the dual race winner this weekend not only losing out to the Riskie Racing driver, but to Heinrich also.
Masters Cup leader Kent Quinn remained in fifth ahead of the equivalent in Gold Cup, Action Line Marking’s Scott Dornan as Western Sydney Motorsport driver Cody Brewczynski recovered from a broken gear lever in Race 3 to be seventh.
Nathan Williams enjoying a superb weekend in the Competition Coatings entry was battling Anthony DiMauro for Koan Solutions and Josh Anderson in the Corish Motorsports Mustang in the backend of the top 10.
Garland continued to lead as Madden was pushed wide at Turn 6 by Chapman to drop to third, with Heinrich having a sniff at a podium position. The reigning series winner managed to succeed in this pursuit.
The top three were now very close heading into the closing stages as Garland was caught by Chapman and Heinrich moved forward on Chapman as he exited the battle with a mechanical problem elevating the Osborn’s Transport entry into second.
It proved another finish as Garland held Heinrich at bay for the majority of the final lap until the exit of Turn 6 where both were side-by-side, but contact was made and the MTA NSW entry spun costing him the round win.
Heinrich was the winner from Madden by 1.5s, with Brewczynski rounding out the podium ahead of Anderson, Masters Cup winner Quinn, Gold Cup victor Dornan, DiMauro, Williams, Cody Mckay and Corish Motorsports’ Jordan Freestone.
Dornan headed Joseph Andriske for Riskie Racing and Fight MND’s Jeff Watters in Gold Cup, while Freestone edged out teammate Mason Harvey, while Shane Mann was third.
Quinn, Mckay and Pro Cool Racing’s Troy Jones rounded out the Masters Cup podium.
This rounds out the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series action from Perth, the class will be back in action for Round 4 supporting the Repco Supercars Championship in Townsville on July 5-7.
