After finishing second in practice earlier, Joel Heinrich has turned the tables to score pole position in the Osborn’s Transport entry for Round 2 of the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series at Queensland Raceway.
The reigning series winner led the way in qualifying by setting a 1m 20.123s as the benchmark as Kody Garland for MTA NSW fell 0.195s shy of the time, while a late lap by Western Sydney Motorsport’s Cody Brewczynski placed him third a further 0.073s in arrears.
Reece Chapman in the Guardian Interlocks entry was fourth just 0.060s off third as Rookie Cup leader Mason Harvey completed the top five for Corish Motorsports.
A race winner at his debut event last year, Brandon Madden placed his Riskie Racing entry in sixth ahead of Diesel Express-supported Kyle Ensbey, Corish Motorsports driver Josh Anderson, Masters Cup leader Kent Quinn for Norganic Proteins and Chris Mercer was 10th in the City Sweep Racing Camaro.
Behind Quinn in Masters Cup was Cody Mckay as MSS Group’s Scott O’Keefe will start third, while Harvey, Mercer and the Corish Motorsports Camaro of Jordan Freestone set the Rookie Cup pace.
Gold Cup will be a close contest as Action Line Marking’s Scott Dornan continued his qualifying form to set class pole, but will have Denis Butler right behind in the Team Grand Racing Camaro for company, while Matt Gooding rounded out the top three.
Two red flags came out as the second one ended the qualifying session prematurely.
Racing for the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series begins at 11:25am tomorrow, with live timing through https://www.computime.com.au/SeriesSites/ASBKHome.
