Joel Heinrich strikes back in Tasmania

Current Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series leader Joel Heinrich has struck back in Tasmania after winning Race 2 of Round 5 at Symmons Plains.

Heinrich scythed his way from fourth to first as Western Sydney Motorsport’s Cody Brewczynski was second after a mistake led his title rival through, with Guardian Interlock Services driver Reece Chapman rounding out the podium.

It was an action packed race as the regular battling occurred throughout the field on a track still damp just like this morning’s opener.

The majority of the field made it safely through Turns 1 and 2, but exiting under the bridge Desmond Collier spun the TFH Hire Services entry hitting the wall causing significant damage.

Further drama occurred at the close of the lap as Rookie Cup leader Mason Harvey spun exiting Turn 7 due to an engine failure and was unable to restart leading to a safety car period.

Brewczynski madę the perfect start to hold the lead from Chapman, Garland and Heinrich.

On the restart, Heinrich made the move to third on Garland and was pressuring Chapman for second, but Brewczynski held a 0.8s lead.

After a podium result in Gold Cup in Race 1, Matt Gooding was in a battle for a top 10 slot, but spun resulting in contact with Andrew Corish at Turn 6.

Corish carried the debris around until the approach to Turn 4 when it separated and was then hit by the Norganic Proteins entry of Kent Quinn.

Joseph Andriske also spun at Turn 1 resulting in his retirement upon entering the pits.

With all this action in the pack, the focus turned to the front and Heinrich had managed to take the lead after disposing of Chapman and a mistake from Brewczynski by running wide in the final corner provided the opening for the reigning series winner.

Behind the lead quartet, Competition Coatings’ Nathan Williams was enjoying a solid run in fifth from a storming Brandon Madden in the lead Riskie Racing entry and Masters Cup leader Cody Mckay.

The mistake proved costly for Brewczynski as he finished 2.6s behind Heinrich at the line as Chapman maintained third from Garland and Williams.

Madden was sixth ahead of Masters Cup winner Mckay, a charging Scott Dornan for Action Line Marking victor in Gold Cup, Riskie Racing’s Scott Andriske and the Rookie Cup success went to Jacob Currie for Precision International.

Race 2 concludes the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series action on Saturday at Symmons Plains, with the third encounter kicking off Sunday’s program at 9:20am AEST live on Kayo/Foxtel.
