Reigning Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series winner Joel Heinrich has taken pole at Bathurst, turning the tables on practice pacesetter Cody Brewczynski in qualifying.
After being edged in practice earlier, Heinrich set initially a 2m 30.067s before further lowering the benchmark to a 2m 29.610s to head Brewczynski by 1.220s as Koan Solutions driver Anthony DiMauro was an impressive third.
CoolDrive Racing supported by Guardian Interlock Services contender Reece Chapman was fourth from the Diesel Express entry of Kyle Ensbey and Corish Motorsport’s Josh Anderson completed the top runners.
Kody Garland was fastest early and ended up seventh in his return to the category, with Rookie Cup leader Mason Harvey eighth ahead of class rival Jordan Freestone as Norganic Protein’s Kent Quinn rounding out the top 10 at the head of Masters Cup.
Asher Johnston continued to improve as he maintained third in Rookie Cup and Masters Cup respectively, just behind Bret Osborn in the Osborn’s Transport entry for the latter class.
Scott Dornan continued to hold sway in the Gold Cup for Action Line Marking as Joseph Andriske for Riskie Racing was second from Emma Clark and Denis Butler, who was second in the class after the opening practice session.
Others to keep an eye on starting outside the top 10 include Riskie racing’s Brandon Madden and Nathan Williams forming the sixth row of the grid.
The opening race of the season is due to commence at 2:25pmlive on Fox Sports and Kayo.
