Joel Heinrich has taken his Osborn’s Transport entry to back-to-back Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series titles after finishing second to MTA NSW’s Kody Garland in the final race of the season on the Gold Coast.
Garland won a one lap dash after another action-packed event where Heinrich and Guardian Interlock Services driver Reece Chapman enjoyed an intense battle for second falling in favour of the title holder.
Garland led from the start as the title contenders filed in behind, with Heinrich leading Western Sydney Motorsport’s Cody Brewczynski, however it was Chapman interrupting the battle by snatching third in the opening chicane.
The race was neutralised by the time the leaders arrived at Turn 11 following a pile up on the front straight instigated by contact between Property Compliance Australia’s Matt Gooding and the Dormer entry of Jarrod Crick.
More drivers including Muscle Motor Trimmers’ Andrew Lorgelly, Joseph Andriske of Riskie Racing, Western Sydney Motorsport’s Grant Thompson, Johnston Craill Racing Enterprises’ Asher Johnston and TJR75 All YachtConsulting and Sales Tony Ross were caught up in avoidance.
Just a one lap dash remained as Garland held on at the restart as Chapman snatched second from Chapman, but this was reversed at Turn 11, which proved an important move for the series.
However, there was another pile up at Turn 11 back in the pack as contact between Diesel Thomas in the Black Diamond Building and Construction tapped Chris Mercer in the City Sweep entry.
A blind approach led to a big incident as Mercer was hit by Denis Butler for Team Grand Racing as Desmond Collier in the FTFH Hire Services entry, Variety Racing’s Brendon Tucker and Corish Motorsports’ Rookie Cup contender Jordan Freestone all piled in.
Others to just avoid were Fight MND;s Jeff Watters, Scott Taylor and Gooding.
Second ensured Heinrich sealed the title although Garland took the round points and levelled the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series standings, but the reigning winner took back-to-back crowns to his superior win tally.
Behind Garland, Heinrich and Chapman was Brewczynski after holding off Rookie Cup winner Mason Harvey.
TFH Hire Services’ Josh Thomas continued his great weekend in sixth from the Riskie Racing entry of Scott Andriske, Kyle Ensbey for Diesel Express, Competition Coatings’ Nathan Williams and Western Sydney Motorsport’s Craig Thompson completing the top 10 as well as winner of Gold Cup.
Harvey led Josh Thomas and Diesel Thomas in Rookie Cup.
Thompson was best in Gold Cup from Mable’s Emma Clark and the Safe Direction entry of Shane Mann.
Cody Mckay completed his impressive season by winning the Masters Cup from Norganic Proteins driver Kent Quinn and MSS Group’s Scott O’Keefe.
This marks the end of the 2024 Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series, with thanks to competitors, teams and supporters.
Watch out for news on the 2025 season soon.
