Mason Harvey and Joel Heinrich open the season fastest in Sydney

The Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Series Presented by TFH season is underway following two practice sessions at Sydney Motorsport Park where reigning Rookie of the Year Mason Harvey and current series Joel Heinrich topped the timesheets.

Leading the charge for Corish Motorsports in the opening session was Harvey on a 1m 52.4756 from  Heinrich by 0.110s, with Kody Garland in his new Triple Eight Race Engineering chassis rounding out the top three in what were mixed conditions.

Nathan Williams in the Competition Coatings entry was fourth from Jascott Civil/Reynovate Constructions’ Ryan Reynolds and Brandon Madden for Riskie Racing.

Reece Chapman was seventh in his fresh liveried Motorsport25 Mustang featuring support from Racer Industries ahead of Masters Cup leader Brett Osborn and Gold Cup’s Scott Dornan in the Action Line Marking Camaro.

Rounding out the top 10 and second in Masters Cup was Cody Mckay.

Behind Dornan in Gold Cup was the Axil Coffee Roasters entry of David Makin and Jeff Watters in the familiar Fight MND Mustang.

Osborn and Mckay led PCA Racing’s Matt Gooding in Masters Cup.

Caleb Paterson in the Norganic Proteins entry led the way in Rookie Cup from CNH Racing’s Hayden Nissen and Kyle Lovering in the K&S Motorsport entry.

In the second session of the day, much better conditions were experienced for the drivers as Joel Heinrich turned the tables to lead Harvey by 0.073s on a 1m 41.166s.

Garland continued in third from Josh Andersen, who recovered after stopping with a flat battery in opening practice to be fourth from Madden.

Chapman improved to sixth to be ahead of Reynolds, rookie Paterson, Andrew Corish and Johnston Craill Racing Enterprises driver Jack Boyd.

Behind Paterson in Rookie Cup was Nissen from Lovering.

Mckay was best in Masters Cup to lead Osborn and Asher Johnston.

Outside the top 10, but still leading the Gold Cup was Dornan ahead of Makin and Watters.

Ian Chivas endured a mechanical problem in the second session in the Silkgate Group Nissan Altima.

Headlining the inaugural Trophy Tour event, the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Series Presented by TFH kicks off its season with a 32-car entry, with Qualifying tomorrow scheduled at 10:55am AEDT.
