Paul Morris joins a host of stars in Aussie Racing Cars at Townsville

Paul Morris will be one of a number of famous faces competing in Round 4 of the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series at Townsville next weekend.

Morris, the 2014 Bathurst 1000 winner, will be joined by Tony Quinn, Courtney Prince and Scott Taylor in a bolstered Aussies field, expected to be close to 40 entrants for the North Queensland event.

Morris is no stranger to the Battery World Aussies field, having competed in selected events for over a decade.

Always one up for a challenge, ‘The Dude’ says that competing in the class is one of the more enjoyable motorsport experiences.

“There’s always a race happening in Aussie Racing Cars, no matter where you are on track,” said Morris.

“You can be at the front, in the mid pack or at the back, there’s always something going on and someone to race against.

“There’s no optimal racing line, which means you can drive it a little differently. You can miss the apex, or run wide, but still be in the fight because the tracks are so wide and the cars so small. The cars just give you the chance to do things a bit different.

“And they’re just cool to drive. They look cool and they are fun.

“People say they are like a go kart, but they are more like an older supercar. They have a spool diff, you can trail brake. It’s good, honest motorsport.”

Morris will be joined by businessman and racing enthusiast Tony Quinn. It was at the Townsville venue two years ago that Quinn was involved in a huge Carrera Cup incident. It was a crash that effectively ended his full-time racing competition, however, since his recovery, he has made cameo appearances in various classes, including Aussie Racing Cars at Townsville last year.

Courtney Prince, a former Carrera Cup regular, will also compete, joining Emma Clark as two female competitors in the pack.

And Scott Taylor is back for his second event of 2024, having raced in Round 2 of the series at Queensland Raceway.

The Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series hit the Townsville track for the first time on Friday for practice and qualifying ahead of four races.
