Record breaking performance by Joel Heinrich in Race 2

It was a record breaking performance by Osborn’s Transport driver Joel Heinrich in Race 2 at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 after achieving 13th victory for the season

Heinrich overhauled the previous Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series season win record set by Adam Gowans in a race finished under safety car.

Title contender Kody Garland for MTA NSW was second ahead of Guardian Interlock Services driver Reece Chapman.

Heinrich got the jump and Chapman jumped Garland for second on the run to Turn 1 as it was a clean start.

Until at Turn 11 where Diesel Thomas was spun in the Black Diamond Building and Construction entry by the Diesel Express’ Kyle Ensbey, which caught out Corish Motorsports driver Jordan Freestone and teammate Andrew Corish.

A safety car was called for a separate incident as Jarrod Crick’s in the Thrive Lending Group entry blowing an engine exiting the Beach Chicane, while Jeff Watters was having dramas in the Fight MND Mustang and made it to pit lane.

Crick’s engine failure resulted in oil being laid off the racing line leading to an extended safety car period.

Just as yesterday, Chapman split title contenders Garland and Brewczynski from leader Heinrich.

Just like Race 1, Heinrich left his jump at the restart late and this opened the door for Chapman to take the lead at Turn 1 as Garland now put the pressure on the series leader.

A mistake from Chapman at Turn 11 allowed Heinrich to snatch back the lead and Garland was threatening to take second.

Heinrich was now away and clear by 0.6s as Chapman was getting loose as he ran wide at Turn 11 swiping the wall in the process and was loose in the final corner.

Garland just before a second safety car period was called took second from Chapman.

A multitude of incidents occurred including the Team Grand Racing entry of Denis Butler being spun by TFH Hire Services’ Desmond Collier, while the safety car was required after Kent Quinn sent the Norganic Proteins Mustang into the tyre wall exiting the Beach Chicane.

The race finished under safety car as Heinrich led Garland, Chapman and TFH Hire Services driver Josh Thomas in fourth.

Lead Rookie Cup contender, Mason Harvey was fifth for Corish Motorsports ahead of title contender Brewczynski, Riskie Racing’s Scott Andriske, Nathan Williams for Competition Coatings, Gold Cup victor Action Line Marking’s Scott Dornan as Courtney Prince completed the top 10.

Thomas led Rookie Cup from Harvey Safe Direction’s Shane Mann.

Winning Gold Cup was Dornan ahead of a great recovery drive from Matt Gooding for Property Compliance Australia as Mann filled out the podium for this class as well.

It was Craig Thompson for Western Sydney Motorsport in Masters Cup from Cody Mckay and MSS Group’s Scott O’Keefe.

It’s not long until the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars Super Series takes to the track as Race 3 is at 11:30am AEST.
